Project Title

Promotion of Traditional Health System in Madhubani district, Bihar

Objectives

The project goal is to promote and resuscitate the traditional health system in Madhubani district, Bihar. The objectives are:

• To promote traditional health care system in Madhubani district
• To identify, encourage and train the traditional vaidyas (healers)
• To re-establish herbal/medicinal plants garden and to prepare herbal medicines
• To sensitise the government for effective implementation of primary health care/services and nutritional health for the entire target population
• To establish traditional health system as core system of primary health care and reproductive health

Activities

• Orientation workshop for vaidyas (traditional healers)
• Training programme of vaidyas for preparation of herbal medicine
• Development of herbal nurseries/gardens
• Preparation of herbal medicines
• Organizing curative camps
• Establishment of herbal dispensaries
• Organising health camps and immunisation camps
• District level workshop on promotion of traditional health care system
• State level workshop on promotion of traditional health care system
• Training on community health care and nutritional health
• Training on community health for women leaders
• Cultivation of vegetables
• Participatory review/monitoring meetings

Expected Outcomes

• 80 traditional healers will be identified
• The vaidyas after training shall conduct treatment activities in their respective areas
• Herbal nurseries shall provide plants to develop herbal gardens having medicinal values
• Some rare medicines shall be propagated in the area
• Local herbs will be used as alternative medicine
• Morbidity and mortality reduced
• Alternative remedies for the common diseases will be developed
• The NGOs shall promote the traditional health care system in the respective areas
• The identified vaidyas and Ayurvedic doctors will associate with state and national level federation
• The target people shall become aware on sanitation, hygiene and other preventive measures
• Morbidity will reduce related to unsafe delivery during floods
• The target group shall cultivate nutritious vegetables
• The nutritional status of people shall be improved
• They can increase their income by cultivating more vegetables
