Sustainable Agriculture and Regeneration of Rural Resources
This activity has three major components:
- Organic Farming
- Livestock Improvement and
- Horticulture and Soil conservation
Training and orientation of the farmers is a major sub-activity in all the above components. Agriculture scientists from reputed institutes like World Neighbours, Kathmandu and Bangalore, Rajendra Agriculture University, Pusa, and local agriculture extension officials have been invited as resource persons. Local officials are also providing cooperation and technical support in follow up actions.
Other tools used are:
- Agriculture fairs in which exhibitions on seeds, nursery raising, manufacturing of organic manure and different new and innovative methods of agriculture practices are held
- Training for promotion of vermi-culture, green manure, composting, herbal pesticides, etc
- Exposure tours of farmers to motivate them take up multi-storied cropping
- Livestock management training for farmers' group and women’s group
- Promotion of rural cultivator for plantation of grass/fodder/teak wood varieties like NB-21, Subabul, Sahtut, Gajuma, Sagban, Mouh, Tilai, Popular, Bamboo (local name of the plants), etc., to protect soil degradation
- Awareness generation about ill effects of chemical fertilisers, pesticides and insecticides on agriculture land
