Education

Girls playing at an education centreThough formal government schools are now available in almost all the villages, the quality of education in these schools is questionable. Moreover, the school timings do not suit to a large section of girl children, particularly from Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes. Lack of willingness on the part of children (and their parents) and poor teaching standards methods in the schools keep children from poorer sections away from the schools.

Many children do not continue education after fifth standard because they have to support their parents in economic activities. Many children are dropouts particularly from among SCs and OBCs because they cannot cope with the teaching methods in the formal government schools.

At present the organisation is running nine Kishori Shiksha Kendras (Adolescent Girls Education Centre). A total of 270 adolescent girls in the age group 10 to 18 years are studying in these centres.

Besides functional literacy, health care education is provided to the learners through female instructors and ANMs. Health awareness competitions are organised for adolescent girls to promote personal hygiene among them.
