Bihar is one of the luckiest places in the world to be blessed with abundant water. But this abundance of water often turns into a bane rather than boon. Almost invariably Bihar faces flash floods during monsoons and, therefore, provision of safe drinking water becomes critical for saving lives.

GPSVS is running Megh Pyne Abhiyan (Cloud Water Campaign) for rain water harvesting. Under this use of rain water as an alternative source of pure drinking water during flood and other months also is being promoted. Water testing, water treatment and water quality management facilities are being provided under the campaign.

Other activities include:

  • Water education/training
  • Multi stakeholders meeting/workshop on water
  • Mass awareness about the imminent water crisis at local and global level
  • Integrated water resource management at community level
  • Revival of old/traditional sources of water like the dug well and ponds
  • Promotion of water friendly crops

Pure drinking water is not possible without adequate sanitation. In view of this, the organisation is promoting construction of low cost Sulabh latrine. It is also organizing awareness camps on ecological sanitation.
