Problem of vision is increasing rapidly in the area as poor people are unable to take proper treatment to their eyes for the lack of money. Facilities for eye treatment are quite inadequate and in cases non-existent in the government hospitals.
For the last two years, GPSVS is running a Vision Centre with support from Sight Savors' International to provide care, consultation and treatment for eye patients. The Vision Centre is engaged in:
- Providing eye care services
- Organising screening camps for refraction, cataract and glaucoma for referral services
- Eye care awareness camps at school and community level
- Cataract surgery at Muzaffarpur Eye Hospital
- Community-based rehabilitation and integrated education programmes for visually impaired people
- Special focused activities for children and aged people
So far 1,375 males and 1,372 females have benefited through cataract surgery at Muzaffarpur Eye Hospital.
