“Women of Mithilanchal are very shy. They follow the high tradition of Parda (Veiling own face). They are non assertive. They revel in their marginalized position in the society. They can never be involved in mainstream of the social political process of the society”. This was the prevailing idea about the women of mithilanchal. This was seen as the positive attribute of the women of mithilanchal. Women having these qualities enjoy high social prestige without having any consideration on the fact that what they are loosing by possessing these qualities. Their suffocation and subjugation in the male dominated society was unnoticed. GPSVS firmly resolved to ventilate the life of women by giving them exposure to the mainstream of society and endowing them with fundamental right which was long over due to them. To empower the women GPSVS introduced the concept of formation of Mahila Mandal. Mahila Mandal helps women to organize them in small groups and capacitate them through inculcating self confidence and sense of participation in social life as well as to promote saving and thrift habit in them. So formation of group, known as Mahila Mandal, has been part of strategy to empower women.
