Activities

 

The major activities of GPSVS are:

Strengthening Women Leadership

This includes formation and strengthening of community based organisations (CBOs). The organisation views self help groups as a special form of CBOs, that are engaged in savings and credit and income generation activities. Community mobilisation is another part of strengthening women leadership.

Education

Efforts in education sector include primary education, education of adolescent girls and education for women group members.

Sustainable Agriculture and Regeneration of Rural Resources

Broadly sustainable agriculture and regeneration of rural resources includes revival of traditional wisdom, organic farming, livestock improvement, and horticulture and soil conservation.

Disaster Response

Included in disaster response are community based disaster preparedness (CBDP) and promotion of flood coping mechanism. This also includes humanitarian assistance during emergencies.

Health

This includes community and reproductive health, and eye care and promotion of traditional health system.

Strengthening of Panchayati Raj

Under the new dispensation, panchayats are supposed to take on all the works related to rural development. Strengthening of panchayati raj is being carried out to enable the panchayats to take up their new responsibility.

Legal Support

Legal support is being provided to the poor and distressed including women through committees formed for this purpose.
